Report: Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal ‘admires’ these two things about Liverpool's Raheem Sterling

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is reportedly a huge fan of Raheem Sterling’s pace and willingness to go past his man and open a game up.

According to the Guardian, Louis van Gaal is looking to make Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling a Manchester United player this summer and admires two key aspects of his game.

The report states that Van Gaal is an admirer of Sterling’s pace and willingness to beat opponents and break a game open. It adds that the Dutchman believes the England international is the perfect player to fit in his preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Sterling, 20, has rejected a new contract at Liverpool, as reported by the BBC, while his agent has seen comments attributed to him which suggest any agreement at Anfield is highly unlikely.

The contract dispute has lead to plenty of speculation, and with roughly three months until the transfer window slams shut, this saga still promises to have many more twists and turns until it reaches a conclusion.

Would Sterling be a good signing for United?

According to the report, Van Gaal is a huge fan of the Liverpool winger and given his age and ability, it’s not hard to see why.

He fits into the style the Dutchman is trying to implement at United and is currently seen as one of the hottest prospects in the game. He was arguably England’s best player at the World Cup in Brazil and a key part of why Liverpool came so close to the title in the 2013-14 season.

He looks and sounds the part, however, given the competition for wide places at United already, he is arguably the last thing the Red Devils need.

Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj, who are all of a similar age to Sterling, are also looking to get into Van Gaal’s first-team in order to make an impact. Therefore, unless one or two wingers exit Old Trafford this summer, it’s hard to see why Sterling would be a key target.
