Ajax are unwilling to increase their bid for Celtic target Mitchell Dijks because they are confident that the player wants to move back to the Amsterdam ArenA, according to The Scottish Sun.
According to the British tabloid, Celtic and Ajax are both interested in signing defender Dijks from Willem II in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported that the Scottish Premiership champions have made a bid of £1.5 million for the 22-year-old left-back, who has a year left on his current contract with the Dutch club.
Ajax have allegedly made an offer which is less than £700,000, but they are confident of securing the services of the youngster they let go in the summer of 2014.
“Ajax agreed Dijks’ switch to Willem II at the start of the 2014-15 campaign on the proviso they got 50 per cent of any sell-on fee,” states the report in The Sun.
“Celtic have responded to their bid to re-sign the player with an increased package and it’s thought the Amsterdam giants are reluctant to match it, believing Dijks prefers to return to his first club than head to Glasgow.”
It will be interesting to see what Dijks eventually decides. Both Ajax and Celtic are big clubs, but perhaps he would better off moving to his former team.
The youngster developed at Ajax and knows the club inside out, and their reported interest means that coach Frank de Boer has been impressed with him and sees him as part of his future plans.
