Report: AC Milan prepare bid for Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov

Sinisa Mihajlovic will reportedly make Manchester City’s Aleksandar Kolarov a main transfer target, if he takes over at AC Milan.

Manchester City’s squad is in desperate need of rejuvenation. It is a bunch of players that has grown old together and possesses one of the highest average ages in the Premier League.

Of the players to start the 2-0 victory over Southampton on the final day of the season, only Joe Hart (28), Sergio Aguero (27) and Eliaquim Mangala (24) were under the age of 29, which has to be a worry.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side needs some fresh, young blood adding to it because the champions of 2013-14 went stale last season. If it were not for Aguero’s 26 goals in the league, they would probably have been competing for fourth spot rather than second.

The fact of the matter is, a club with the resources and ambition of City’s should always be competing for the title. Chelsea ran away with it this year, winning it with three games to spare after a capitulation from City in 2015.

Their summer recruitment must revolve around selling their ageing legs for as much cash as they can get whilst bringing in young, exciting talents who can be in the first-team squad for years to come, whether it be from the academy or through purchasing.

One player who has been linked with a move away from the club is Aleksandar Kolarov, who his compatriot Sinisa Mihajlovic wants at AC Milan if he, as expected (per the Guardian), takes over at the club, according to Talksport.

The Rossoneri’s latest mid-table finish saw them part ways with Filippo Inzaghi and they reportedly want to bring in the former Sampdoria boss as soon as possible.

The sleeping giants are determined to bring in some quality this summer and a new left-back appears to be at the forefront of Mihajlovic’s thinking, with the Serb unconvinced by current option Luca Antonelli. With Gael Clichy already at the club, City can afford to offload Kolarov for the right price.

Kolarov has been at the Etihad since 2010 but has never really set the Premier League alight on a consistent basis; the attack-minded left-back often gets caught out of position, much to the frustration of City fans.

Many would prefer to see the exciting youth prospect Jose Angel Tasende, who is better known as Angelino, given an opportunity as Clichy’s back-up next season, meaning Kolarov’s services would no longer be required.
