Arsenal legend Liam Brady told talkSPORT that he feels the work rate and effort of Alexis Sanchez is a real eye opener for the rest of the squad.
Brady admits he’s been impressed by the impact the Chilean has had since he moved to the club and not just because of his impressive attacking stats from the past season (24 goals, nine assists).
“I think his example of chasing back when he loses the ball has been a real eye opener for a lot of our players and it certainly raises their games,” he said.
Sanchez’s effort to work hard for the team creates a number of positive benefits for the side and for manager Arsene Wenger.
He’s never going to have the best bullet proof game, but his pace and fitness allows him to drop back and provide extra cover with the left-back or the right-back depending on what side he’s playing down.
Wenger knows he’s going to get that effort, which allows him to toy around with his full-backs slightly, to try and get more out of them.
He knows that Sanchez has the pace to get back and help any defender double up, which makes the Gunners more difficult to break down and gives them a better chance of winning the ball back quickly.
His work rate rubbing off on his Arsenal teammates increases the determination levels running through the team and Wenger will urge any new signing this summer to follow his example.
