The Eagles could soar with the ex-Newcastle midfielder in their midst.
Without a doubt, Cabaye would be a high-quality signing for Crystal Palace. How high the chances are we don't yet know.
But, should it happen (without jumping the gun, of course), there would be two implications. The first is a jump up the Premier League table for the Eagles. Such is the quality of the midfielder, even now that he is 29, that much is almost bound to happen. Look at the impact he had at Newcastle.
A second, though, affects both Pardew's reputation and that of the Magpies. Since the 53-year-old left St James' Park for south London, pundits have continually heaped praise on the Crystal Palace boss - basically forgetting the bad times at Newcastle.
It has infuriated many supporters on Tyneside. Call it a selective memory from those doing the talking.
And, should Cabaye make the move to Palace, that kind of thing will not stop any time soon. It will look like a massive seal of approval on Pardew's reputation (who has undoubtedly done a great job so far at Crystal Palace) - and it will no doubt disappoint Newcastle fans if their former hero were to reunite with one of their most unpopular managers.
