Celtic star James Forrest has told the club’s website that he’s keen for the pre-season period to get underway.
Forrest is part of the post-season Scotland squad for the country’s international fixtures and he appears determined to have an impact with his country, taking that forward into his club career with Celtic.
He’s also revealed that he feels his fitness levels are improving, which bodes well for his chances of featuring through pre-season under Ronny Deila.
“I’ve played more games, which is what I wanted, and I’ve been available for most of the matchesin the second half of the season. I’m now looking forward to pre-season and I really want to just continue that progression there,” he said.
“My fitness feels good and has got better as the weeks have gone on. Every game, every training session has felt better and I want to build on that and keep it up.”
While Deila achieved success with a domestic double in his first season at the club, he will likely wipe the slate clean and challenge all of his players to prove they deserve their place all over again during the close season.
He will be watching all of the international games closely over the coming days and it’s encouraging that Forrest seems to sense an opportunity.
If he can play well for Scotland and create a good impression, there’s a very good chance that he could be part of the Celtic team, which start’s the club’s first competitive game of 2015/2016.
For now though, it’s a case of getting his head down and taking nothing for granted because international football can be punishing for any player who takes his eye off the ball.
