The Rams confirmed Clement as their next manager earlier this week and Brazil feels that he can’t deal with the pressure of coaching such a big Championship club all on his own.
“He can’t do it all on his own because he needs to know a little bit about the Championship, the different grounds – He should have someone local there who’s got a great understanding of the Championship,” he said.
It’s important to remember that while Clement does have an impressive CV in terms of the club’s where he’s been an assistant and the players he’s coached, this is still his first job in direct control of a team.
It would be naïve of him to jump into his position at Derby, without looking for a helping hand coming from the outside to offer him some initial guidance.
Last season showed just how competitive the Championship is and how damaging it can be for any manager in terms of his future; Steve McClaren was sacked by Derby after two unsuccessful years in terms of promotion.
Some solid local knowledge and an experienced head in terms of the division will reduce the chance that Derby could get off to a bad start next season.
Clement will already have ideas and theories over the best way forward for the Rams and he should ask for some help in executing them if he feels he needs it.
