Manchester United could have a very exciting and explosive team next season.
It hasn’t been a perfect ten months but United are in a better position than when van Gaal first took over.
He’ll know the weaknesses in the squad and is likely to now work hard in the transfer market to make key signings, which put United in with a good chance of winning the Premier League next year.
We’ve had a go at naming van Gaal’s first choice side for next season based on current players and potential new signings based on transfer rumours.
Lloris, Clyne, Smalling, Hummels, Rojo, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Sterling, Depay, Rooney
The Manchester Evening News has suggested that Hugo Lloris of Tottenham could be the man to come in if David De Gea is sold to Real Madrid.
De Gea is reportedly keen on that move, but Lloris is a very good all round goalkeeper and someone who would definitely soften the blow of losing arguably the club’s best player.
In terms of the defence, the Daily Express has suggested that Nathaniel Clyne is still a target while the Daily Star has previously reported that Mats Hummels could be tasked with improving the middle of the back four.
United struggled at times defensively last season and van Gaal needs to add bodies in that area to give himself some extra options.
In terms of the midfield and attack, there is enough already in place to give United plenty of punch next season, but signing Raheem Sterling from Liverpool, as the Guardian suggests, would be a real coup for the club.
He would inject pace, energy and real drive into the team and would certainly make United more intimidating from an attacking sense.
