Report: Southampton leading race for Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka

The Southampton target is also wanted by Crystal Palace and Sunderland.

As per a report in TMW, Southampton are leading the race for Sampdoria striker Stefano Okaka, who is keen on a switch to the Premier League this summer.

The 25-year-old netted four goals in 34 games this term, and impressed heavily with his attacking displays. He earned his first international recognition with Italy, and scored on his debut.

His performances have increased the interest in him, and a summer exit from Sampdoria is expected. He is keen on a move to England to test himself in the Premier League, and, along with Southampton’s interest, a host of other top division clubs want him.

Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Sunderland were keen on the talented forward, whilst TMW was reporting on interest from Crystal Palace and Swansea.

However, the latest report suggests that the Saints are at the forefront of the race for his signature.

There are no indications as to which club Okaka would prefer to join, although the South Coast outfit are the only interested party able to offer Europa League football, and that is likely to be a key factor for the forward, as he looks to retain his place in Italy’s international squad.
