Report: Arsenal submit bid for Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain

Napoli

The Gunners hope to challenge for the title next year and reportedly view Gonzalo Higuain as the man to fire them to glory.

Arsenal have been plagued by a similar fate in the last few seasons: a slow start followed by a resurgence mid-season ultimately leaving them with too big a gap at the top to close.

With a little more consistency and an addition of real quality to the squad, Arsenal will be genuine title contenders.

Olivier Giroud has taken his fair share of criticism, not least from Thierry Henry, and while he is by no means a bad player, many fans feel the lack of a top drawer centre-forward has been Arsenal’s downfall in recent years.

Arsenal will look to address this in the summer transfer window and Gonzalo Higuain is believed to be high on Arsene Wenger’s shortlist.

The Argentine star has enjoyed a fantastic couple of years in Italy, averaging just over a goal every other game with 35 in 69 appearances.

Whether Arsenal will match Napoli’s fee remains to be seen but a report in Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests they have launched an intial £29.4 million bid for the 27-year-old. The report also states Arsenal will need to up their offer with Napoli holding out for £36.7 million.

Available, world-class forwards have been few and far between in recent years but Gonzalo Higuain certainly fits the bill. A proven goalscorer throughout his career and in the prime of his footballing life, Higuain could be just the man to bring the glory days back to the red half of North London.
