Rafa Benitez sends goalkeeping coach to compile report on David De Gea

Rafa Benitez hasn't wasted any time comparing Iker Casillas and David De Gea, whilst both are in training with their national team.

Just a day after his official appointment as Real Madrid manager, Rafa Benitez isn't wasting any time gathering as much information together as possible, as he plans ahead for the 2015-16 season.

The first challenge the former Liverpool boss will have to ponder, will be to reach an important decision on the futures of not one, but two goalkeepers. Essentially, the dilemma of deciding on a move for De Gea, or the conundrum of whether he chooses to stick with Casillas.

David De Gea is still stalling over whether he will stay at Manchester United, amidst growing speculation he will move to Real Madrid this summer. This also creates a predicament for club icon, Iker Casillas, who is expected to leave if that deal goes through.

With both goalkeepers currently training with the Spain squad, ahead of the friendly with Costa Rica and EURO 2016 qualifier against Belarus, De Gea and Casillas are vying to be first-choice in the plans of national team coach, Vicente del Bosque.

As such and according to Spanish sports daily AS, this has presented Benitez with an ideal opportunity to make direct comparisons between the pair, which could sway his decisions, and subsequent recommendations to Real Madrid supremo, Florentino Perez.

Xavi Valero, who Benitez has taken with him to Real Madrid as goalkeeping coach, was observed taking notes from the VIP area overlooking the training pitch, whilst De Gea and Casillas trained on Thursday.

Following the session, Valero also spent time talking at length with the Spanish national team goalkeeping coach, Jose Manuel Ochotorena, then had discussions with Casillas.

Amidst the uncertainty as to whether De Gea will remain at Old Trafford beyond the summer, certainly they will have good reason to be concerned, if the Real Madrid coach also makes discreet contact with their goalkeeper, whilst he's in the Spanish capital on international duty.
