Leeds United continue to commit to developing youth as two young defenders become the latest players to extend their stay at Elland Road.
Leeds United have continued their emphasis on developing youngsters at the club by awarding another pair of promising footballers new contracts.
19-year-old defenders Tyler Denton and Jake Skelton have both signed one-year extensions, following on from recent decisions to award Alex Purver, Luke Parkin, Frank Mulhern, Tom Lyman and Bailey Peacock-Farrell professional deals or extensions.
It is clear Massimo Cellino is sticking to his words on developing talent at the Whites, with the Italian saying the following after tying down Lewis Cook to a new deal last month:
“My plan for this club is to grow, not to sell our best young players," the Star quoted him as saying.
“I have a lot of trust in the young players here. It is a special place for them and it has been for many years.
“Young players at other clubs say they love their club but they don’t really mean it. Here at Leeds, I can tell they mean it. The club is really in their hearts."
Denton took to Twitter to declare his delight after extending his stay at Elland Road, with the youngster only signing professional terms last summer.
Really pleased to have agreed a new contract at my boyhood team! Can't wait to get back into it and hoping for a successful season #lufc— Tyler Denton (@TylerDenton06) June 4, 2015
Neither player have made their first-team debut for the club, but both have featured prominently for the development squad in recent seasons, with fullback Denton making more appearances than anyone else this year.
Skelton travelled with the first-team on last summer's pre-season tour of Italy, and the centre back, alongside Denton, will be hoping to break into Uwe Rosler's squad this season.
