Jamie Redknapp: Former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez an absolute genius at playing football

Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on Barcelona’s Luis Suarez.

Renowned pundit Jamie Redknapp has branded former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez an 'absolute genius' ahead of Barcelona's Champions League final showdown with Juventus, Sky Sports report.

The Uruguay international notched 82 goals in 133 appearances during his three-and-a-half year stint on Merseyside, including 31 Premier League strikes in his final campaign with the Reds.

It wasn’t enough to help his side win the title, but his impact an Anfield was so strong that the Reds’ previously mesmerising attacking performances completely vanished the moment he left.

It is now Barcelona who are benefiting from his presence, and alongside fellow South American superstars Neymar and Lionel Messi, the trio have recorded a whopping 120 goals between them this season.

Now on the cusp of a memorable treble, Jamie Redknapp has heaped praise on the controversial star and placed him as the leading striker in his European Champions League best XI.

“Luis Suarez gives Barcelona another dimension and stretches the play. It took him a little while to get started after his ban but he’s an absolute genius when it comes to playing football,” he remarked.

“Neymar is great, but if you’re looking at front men – Karim Benzema, Carlos Tevez, and Alvaro Morata – Suarez is the one I’d want in my team.”

After a slow start at the Nou Camp – largely because of a lengthy ban and ensuing fitness problems – Suarez has come into his own and his unselfish runs allow Messi to cause havoc cutting in from the right flank.

The 28-year-old has notched 16 goals and 14 assists in 25 La Liga starts, helping the Catalans to a domestic double of title and Copa Del Rey ahead of this weekend’s Champions League final.
