Don Hutchison sends a message to Mike Ashley on Twitter after Advocaat appointment

The former Sunderland midfielder and life-long Newcastle fan reacted to the Dutchman's appointment on social media.

Don Hutchison was delighted on Twitter after Sunderland announced the permanent appointment of Dick Advocaat as manager on Thursday afternoon.

After recently announcing that he would not take up the role, the Dutchman performed a U-turn after being convinced by the Sunderland board.

Of the available candidates, Advocaat was the best option by far - especially after the work he carried out at the Stadium of Light during his spell as interim boss to keep them in the Premier League.

And Hutchison, a former Sunderland midfielder, took to Twitter to celebrate.

At the same time, however, the pundit - a life-long Newcastle United fan - sent a message to Magpies owner Mike Ashley.

Newcastle are yet to follow suit and appoint their new manager but widespread reports suggest they will soon, with former Middlesbrough, England and Derby County boss Steve McClaren tipped for the hot seat at St James' Park.

BBC Sport claim McClaren will be unveiled by Newcastle as early as next week and it will be interesting to see who enjoys a better season - the Magpies or the Black Cats.

Both Sunderland and Newcastle fans will no doubt want better than last term.
