Benito Carbone: I can take Sheffield Wednesday back to the Premier League

Benito Carbone says that he can do a better job than Stuart Gray at Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

Benito Carbone has told The Sun that he can take Sheffield Wednesday back to the Premier League.

Wednesday are currently playing in the Championship and are not in a position to compete for a top-six finish next season.

“I think Wednesday have to be back in the Premier League,” the former Wednesday attacker told The Sun. “They are a big, big club - one of the first clubs in England

“History says they must be in the Premier League and I am sure I am the man to get them back there. With this manager, they have never had the risk of being relegated. He has done well.

“But they are missing something to go on the next step. They need more motivation and quality. I can bring that - and it wouldn’t even have to cost a lot of money.”

Stuart Gray is currently in charge of Wednesday and led them to a 13th-placed finish in the Championship in the recently concluded 2014-15 season.

In the 2013-14 campaign, Wednesday ended up in 16th place in the Championship.

While Carbone is right in claiming that the Owls are one of the biggest clubs in England and should be in the Premier League, perhaps he should understand the tough task that Gray has at hand.

Wednesday have some very good players, but they are not a team who are equipped to challenge for the Championship playoffs, let alone the automatic promotion spots.

True, Gray needs to recruit good players in the summer transfer window, but there is so much he can do with limited funds.
