Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend has told The Daily Star that his so-called feud with former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson is over.
Earlier this season, the duo were involved in exchange of words on social networking site Twitter.
The 23-year-old Spurs winger hit back at his compatriot after scoring against Italy and posted the following message for him on Twitter:
Merson responded to that Tweet by telling Sky Sports that he does not feel that he has to defend himself as he was only giving his opinion.
However, a few days later after Tottenham’s goalless draw with Burnley in the Premier League - one of the worst games of the 2014-15 season - Merson hit back at Townsend with the following Tweet:
The row between Merson and Townsend was quite amusing to the neutrals, and the latter has now said that it is water under the bridge.
“In football there is a lot of banter," the 23-year-old told The Daily Star. ”He (Merson) made a comment then I made one, but I'm sure if I saw him tomorrow we'd shake hands and laugh about it.
"He was entitled to his opinion but I've just tried to channel that criticism into positive performances. I came on and scored the goal against Italy - so hopefully I'll get more criticism next time!”
