According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur are willing to listen to offers for midfielder Benjamin Stambouli this summer.
This comes after claims from his homeland that Marseille want to bring the 24-year-old back to Ligue 1, and a recent suggestion from L’Equipe – quoted by GFFN – that Premier League club Watford are also keen.
Given the alleged interest on both sides of the Channel, we take a look at three other English clubs who could benefit from signing the defensive midfielder.
Newcastle United have a recent history of bringing in French players and having signed Stambouli’s former Montpellier teammate Remy Cabella last summer, they could do a lot worse than reuniting them a year on.
Both players have struggled to make much of an impact in their debut campaign but they played extremely well together in their homeland and with Newcastle needing more steel in midfield, the Tottenham player could be a savvy addition.
West Ham United
West Ham will need to replace Alex Song this summer after the loanee returned to his parent-club Barcelona.
It remains to be seen where the Cameroon international will be playing next season but there is a very big chance the Hammers will need to look elsewhere for another defensive-minded player and Stambouli fits the bill.
The fact that he will already be comfortable in London could also tip the balance in their favour if they were to make a bid.
Rumours persist that Southampton could lose Morgan Schneiderlin this summer and if they have to replace him, Stambouli could be an option.
While the Frenchman has not been given many chances at White Hart Lane, he could be the latest player to blossom under the tutelage of Southampton manager Ronald Koeman.
