Atletico Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the Argentine.
Following a stunning World Cup and man of the match performance in last season's Champions League final the Argentine suddenly became available at Real Madrid, after they snapped up James Rodriguez from AS Monaco.
Manchester United therefore splashed the cash. He cost the club, as reported by The Guardian, a whopping £59.7 million but has not fulfilled his talent.
Injury has not helped and in fairness he has still bagged plenty of assists respectively. However he is now believed to be considering a move away from Manchester United. It was reported by beIN Sports, as relayed by Metro, that Di Maria had handed in a transfer request at Old Trafford, with a move to Paris Saint-Germain apparently on the cards.
However, he could head back to Madrid, just not with Real. It is reported by Meridiano that Atletico Madrid are on the trail of the player, who is currently away on international duty with Argentina.
The deal could be funded by any potential sale of French international Antoine Griezmann. Without that sale it would be very difficult to see Atletico splashing out that sort of cash on the player, although a loan deal would not be out of the question.
Manchester United fans will however hope Di Maria can come good at the Theatre of Dreams.
