The newest addition to Manchester United's playing squad has been talking about his final matches in Holland.
Depay agreed a deal to sign for Louis van Gaal’s side last month, but it has since been revealed that United were reluctant to see the Netherlands international play again this season due to the possibility of him picking up an injury.
However, Depay continued to feature for PSV Eindhoven, ending his campaign with an impressive 28 goals in 40 matches.
“I wanted to play,” Depay said. “But the club and Manchester United weren’t happy with that; because of injuries.
“I wanted to become top scorer and break the total points record with PSV, so I absolutely wanted to play.”
The 21-year-old continued his scintillating form right up until the final match of the season, scoring in three of the last four matches and providing an assist in the final day victory against ADO Den Haag.
Now he has a summer to rest and recuperate before taking the next step in his career, where the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping he can show what club-record signing Angel Di Maria has not for so much of the campaign.
Depay is an exciting player who should be a fan favourite at United, and with his eye for goal and direct style of play, it seems a new Premier League star could soon be born.
