Manchester United round-up: £110m bid reportedly rejected for Bale and Varane; Fellaini on best position

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

The Independent has picked up on claims from Spain that Manchester united have made a £110million bid for Real Madrid duo Gareth Bale and Raphael Varane.

However, before United fans get too excited it is being reported that the huge bid has been rejected by the Spanish club.

United have long been linked with Bale, whose second season at the Bernabeu has not gone quite according to plan. But with new manager Rafa Benitez now in place it is unlikely Real will sell any of their star players until the new boss has discussed his plans for the squad.

Varane would also be a wonderful addition to United’s side, with Louis van Gaal needing to sign quality defensive reinforcements, but it seems the club will have to look elsewhere for those, too.

In other news, United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has been speaking to Eurosport about his playing-time this season.

“I’m a midfielder, two or three games I played a striker but I’m a midfielder,” the Belgian international said. “If the manager wants me to play there, I will but the most important thing is how I train, how I learn.”

Fellaini has been one of United’s key players this season, putting the disappointment of his debut campaign well and truly behind him.
