Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Rafa Benitez's Real Madrid appointment

The Spanish manager won the Champions League while at Anfield, among other trophies.

With Real Madrid announcing the appointment of Rafa Bentiez as their new manager on Wednesday, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to offer their thoughts on a former boss who is still highly thought of at Anfield.

The Reds favourite's return to the Bernabeu was always destined to happen at some point, considering Benitez has a long standing association with the La Liga giants.

Born in the Spanish capital, Benitez came through the Real academy in the 1970s, before playing for their second string Castilla for seven season, making over 240 appearances in the white of the club's reserve side.

The 55-year-old took charge of the team for two years when he retired from playing, his first role as a manager, before embarking on a career that would see him achieve varying levels of success at Valencia, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Chelsea and then Napoli.
