Derby County manager Paul Clement has revealed he's been given positive messages about the club's support base.

Derby County’s new manager Paul Clement has stressed the importance of the club’s support base, as he spoke to the Derby Telegraph.

Clement has revealed that the fan base was sold to him as one of the best things about the club, when he held conversations with different people before taking the job at the Championship giants.

He’s explained that meeting fans and forging a positive relationship with them is something that he’s looking forward to.

“The club has a fantastic stadium and week in, week out the fans turn up and support the team. I am really looking forward to meeting the supporters,” he said.

“I have been very fortunate with some of the clubs I have worked for but I have spoken to people at Derby and they say the fan base is fantastic.”

Clement would have been well aware of the importance in getting fans on side before he took the move to Derby, because of his job at Real Madrid.

Supporters of the Spanish side can be some of the harshest in Europe if things aren’t going in favour of the club and it’s encouraging it’s an area Clement wants to approach quickly.

Hopefully, he’ll be able to build a side over the course of the summer which is capable of getting the side off to a good start next season.

The majority of fans are very simple in terms of what they are looking for from a manager and a team.

If Clement ensures that all of his players are giving everything and showing that commitment while he’s making the right decisions for the good of the club, few can argue with the basic job he’s doing.
