Steaua Bucharest playmaker Alexandru Chipciu is trying to ignore speculation surrounding his future.
Steaua Bucharest playmaker Alexandru Chipciu has told Sport in Romania that he could leave this summer, but is trying not to pay attention to speculation over his future.
The 26-year-old helped Steaua win the Romanian Cup on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Universitatea Cluj - where Aston Villa were allegedly watching him.
Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor reported over the weekend that Villa boss Tim Sherwood had send scouts to watch the Romanian international in action ahead of the summer transfer window.
Steaua have recently sold the likes of Vlad Chiriches and Florin Gardos to Tottenham and Southampton respectively, and now their former team-mate Chipciu could join them in the Premier League if Villa choose to firm up their interest this summer.
Chipciu has struck 25 goals in 129 games for Steaua as well as three in 17 for Romania, and given his reputation at Steaua, Villa may feel that they've uncovered a hidden gem.
However, speaking after Sunday's cup final win, Chipciu told Sport in Romania that he isn't focusing on the speculation of a move to Villa Park - but has admitted that there is a chance he could leave if a deal is struck with any club.
"I do not want to comment on rumors of a transfer," said Chipciu. "I will prepare hard for next season! If I have to leave, I'll leave," he added.
Villa boss Sherwood is likely to lead a full scale overhaul of his squad this summer after the 4-0 FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal - and Chipciu could be one potential arrival at Villa Park.
