Former Scotland striker Alan Brazil has suggested Liverpool are making a positive move if they sign James Milner.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Scotland striker Alan Brazil summarised how a free transfer for James Milner should be considered by Liverpool fans, on his breakfast show for talkSPORT.

The BBC has reported that the Reds are closing in on a deal for the Manchester City midfielder, who will be a free agent when his current contract at the Etihad Stadium expires.

“James Milner on a free, you have to say is very good business,” he said.

Milner is one of the most versatile midfield men at any large Premier League team and he creates a number of benefits for the Reds if they can complete a deal without any problems.

He can cover a number of positions across Liverpool’s team, which will give manager Brendan Rodgers some different options during difficult periods where injuries and suspensions may well have piled up.

He also brings proven Premier League and international experience to the table, which removes the worry of a settling in period and should allow him to hit the ground running with his new club.

Rodgers knows he’s the sort of player he can throw straight into the team and he’ll get a response from him.

Hopefully Milner will be able to remove some of the pressure from Liverpool’s other midfielders, which will exist because of Steven Gerrard’s departure from the club.

As Brazil suggests, it’s good business and a positive move if Liverpool can wrap up a deal.
