Sheffield United fans react on Twitter as Nigel Adkins is confirmed as manager

Bramall Lane Sheffield United

The former Southampton and Reading manager has taken over at Bramall Lane, causing fans to take to Twitter to discuss the appointment.

Sheffield United have announced the appointment of ex Southampton boss Nigel Adkins as the their new manager.

Adkins has four promotions to his name, and his task at the Blades will not be dissimilar to what he achieved with Southampton five years ago, when he pulled a club that was too big for League One into the Championship, before riding that wave at the Saints all the way to the Premier League.

His successive promotions played a major role in setting the South Coast club up where they are today, battling for Champions League places in the top half of the top flight and set to feature in the Europa League next season.

He also helped Scunthorpe United to two separate promotions from League One, making him one of the most qualified men around to make that jump with what is a talented Sheffield United squad.

The 50-year-old was last in work with Reading last year, and is replacing Nigel Clough despite the former Burton Albion boss getting the Blades to the semi-finals of both the playoffs and the League Cup this season.

Below is a selection of tweets from United fans about their new boss, with a few well wishers from his old club Southampton thrown in for good measure:
