Newcastle United have no plans to interview Steve McClaren in the near future, according to a report in the Chronicle.
McClaren had been tipped by the Daily Mail to take charge at St. James' Park before the end of the week, having emerged as the leading contender for the post, but it seems that these reports are false.
Newcastle are apparently still weighing up their options and are yet to make an approach for the former England manager.
McClaren is currently on holiday, after being sacked by Championship outfit Derby County, and Newcastle are not intending to cut his break short.
That comes as a shock, especially after Patrick Vieira was ruled out from taking over at the Magpies earlier today.
It means that the identity of Newcastle's next manager remains unknown, with the club seemingly determined to take their time over the appointment.
At the moment, Newcastle are understood to be interviewing John Carver, who had a disastrous spell as caretaker boss, but he is not expected to land the role on a permanent basis.
