Sherwood has been left to analyse what went wrong as his club lost their final three games, including the FA Cup final, and Parlour has suggested that it’s important he has positive plans by the time pre-season gets underway.
“Pre-season is going to be very important for Tim – He’ll have a plan of who he wants to play, who he wants to keep and who he wants to bring in as well – There’s no complaints, he’ll hold his hands up and move on,” he said.
Sherwood has always been very open over the fact that no one is safe from the chop in his squad.
He demands a certain level of effort and performance and anyone who doesn’t adhere to that level will find themselves under pressure and staring at a potential exit.
His hands have been tied to a degree because he was thrown into a difficult situation when he replaced Paul Lambert and tasked with keeping the club up with the same deficiencies that Lambert couldn’t get on top of.
He guided the club to safety but there are holes in the squad and areas, which do need to be addressed over the coming weeks and months.
Injuries to the defence saw him having to use players out of position and the back four suffered as a result.
He’s also got challenges in terms of keeping key players with Christian Benteke a good example of a player likely to be a serious target for several clubs.
He needs to make sure that he’s got good quality options in all areas by the time the season starts with the intention of ensuring last season doesn’t repeat itself.
