Odds drop on Derby in key area after Clement's move is confirmed

Derby County West Stand

Paul Clement's confirmation as Derby County manager has had an exciting impact on the betting market.

Paul Clement could make his first move as Derby County boss by raiding his old club, according to Ladbrokes.

The Rams are 5/1 to sign any Real Madrid player this summer following the appointment of the former Bernabeu assistant.

However, any arrival from the Spanish capital looks highly unlikely to be in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the former Manchester United man a 5000/1 shot to swap La Liga for the Championship this summer.

Ben Stones of Ladbrokes said "Paul Clement could follow in the footsteps of Aitor Karanka in starting his Championship experience by raiding his former club, though he may have to aim slightly lower than CR7".

Looking at more realistic moves for Madrid, new Real boss-in-waiting Rafa Benitez could return to a former club for his shopping this summer as well.

Raheem Sterling is 3/1 to leave Liverpool to join the 32-times Spanish champions, while it's 10/1 that Peter Cech ends his Chelsea stay in favour of joining his old boss. David de Gea looks to be the first choice goalkeeping target though, with odds of 4/7 suggesting he is the most likely player to sign.

Ladbrokes latest betting:

Derby to win the Championship (2015/16) - 9/1 (from 10/1)

Derby to sign any Real Madrid player this summer - 5/1

Derby to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer - 5000/1
