Could the Argentine defender soon be playing alongside his countryman for Manchester United, too?
Otamendi currently plays for Spanish side Valencia, where he has enjoyed a brilliant campaign, and the Guardian recently reported that United were interested in the 27-year-old.
In truth Rojo’s latest action could simply have been a way to appease one of his many Twitter followers, but it could also hint that he knows something we don’t know, or that he will indeed talk up United when the two players meet up for this summer’s Copa America.
“Make sure you talk to Nicolas Otamendi and tell him to finish up his deal with Manchester United quickly,” the tweet said, but it remains to be seen if there will be two Argentine defenders at Old Trafford next season.
Rojo has impressed in his debut campaign and it would be interesting to see if he could ultimately develop an effective centre-back pairing with his countryman.
Otamendi will not come cheap, if at all, but in 38 appearances this season he has proved himself adept at both ends of the pitch, putting in some wonderful defensive displays but also scoring six goals.
