Patrick Vieira

Ant&Dec, Olivier Bernard and former Sunderland midfielder Danny Higginbotham all felt ex-Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira would be a good candidate for the Newcastle job.

According to ESPN, Patrick Vieira is out of the running to be the new Newcastle United manager.

The former Arsenal midfielder was one of the candidates for the job, but it has now been reported that he is not in contention anymore.

It has been claimed that “Vieira's lack of top-flight managerial experience has counted against him”.

The former France international is the head of the elite development squad at Manchester City, and it seems that Newcastle want someone who has Premier League experience.

The latest update on the managerial situation at St. James’ Park is unlikely to please Olivier Bernard or Ant & Dec.

Former Newcastle defender Bernard wanted his compatriot Vieira to be in charge of the Magpies and told The Chronicle on Monday: “He’s the best bet. Patrick has played the game and won the lot.

“His philosophy of football is very good and having been with Arsene Wenger for many years he has ethics that are good enough to build on.”

English comedy duo and TV presenting duo Ant & Dec also wanted Vieira to take charge of the Newcastle first team, while former Sunderland defender Danny Higginbotham thought that the Frenchman was ready for the job.
