Footage has appeared seemingly indicating that the Belgian international is unwilling to sign a new contract at Villa Park.
Christian Benteke's agent Kismet Eris has reportedly been caught out by an Aston Villa fan posing as a Premier League manager, telling the supporter that the 24-year-old 'will not sign a new contract at Villa Park' and 'is looking to leave to play for a higher team.'
The revelation came late on Monday, with fan Ty TeeBee Bracey posting the clip of him allegedly talking to Eris.
"There is one thing for sure, he will not sign a new contract," the man said to be Eris says in the footage on the Mail's site. "I am waiting on a phone call from Tom Fox, I have to meet him."
"One thing for sure is that Christian will do whatever is possible legally, by insisting if he has to, to leave Aston Villa. That is not because he is not happy at all, it’s because just he wants to play for a higher team."
Though there is no way to prove the call is genuine, the Mail are running the story as just that, and if nothing else it makes the Belgian's future at Villa Park even more uncertain than it has been in the last few weeks.
Rumours of a £32.5 million release clause have slipped out in the media in recent days, and the likes of both Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked to the former Genk forward by publications such as the Star.
Brendan Rodgers is said to be unwilling to meet that figure, but this news will only encourage those chasing the Belgium international who scored 15 goals this season, with Villa now facing up to the possibility of their star man demanding his move, or sitting out the final two years of his contract in the reserves.
What do you make of all this Villa fans, are you now expecting the striker to push for a move away before the start of next season?
