Why Newcastle hiring Patrick Vieira is a step in the right direction

Newcastle are reportedly keen on hiring Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.

The Magpies are said to be interested in hiring Vieira this summer, as per the Chronicle, with the former Arsenal midfielder and Steve McClaren the two most likely candidates to be hired.

Whilst McClaren is a name that is often bandied around, with him a respectable coach with a reputation for playing good football, and bringing stability to clubs, Vieira is a more surprising candidate.

He has been coaching Manchester City’s development squad for the past few years, but without a senior management role to his name, Newcastle would be making a bold move if they were to appoint him.

However, Vieira is the kind of coach who would be perfect for the Magpies, as they look to move forward after a couple of years of backwards progression.

Whilst McClaren would bring a known quantity, Vieira would come in with no expectations on his head, and could benefit from this kind of situation. He may have no top level managerial experience, but rather than hiring a boss who is likely to come in and complete his job with little change, Vieira looks to be the kind of man who would revolutionise a club.

And the Tyneside outfit really do need some major changes.

Hiring Vieira would be a step in the right direction from Newcastle chiefs Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley as well, and it would likely ease the pressure on Ashley’s head.

If he could strike a deal with Vieira, Ashely would show that he is keen to move the club forward again, and it is hard to deny that fans would not accept his decision with open arms.

For all parties involved, Newcastle hiring Vieira would be a great move, and Ashley should do all he can to guarantee that the Premier League great secures a move to St James’ Park this summer.
