Twitter reacts as Watford sign Austrian defender Sebastien Prodl

Watford completed the signing of the Werder Bremen centre back on a free transfer.

Watford today announced the signing of Austrian central defender Sebastien Prodl from Werder Bremen on a five-year deal, according to the club website.

The 27-year-old has captained Die Werderaner during his time there, so it is something of coup that the Hornets have managed to sign him on a free transfer, in dong so securing their first signing since achieving promotion to the Premier League.

The giant centre back, who can also operate in midfield, has played much of his career in the German Bundesliga, having moved to Werder Bremen from Sturm Graz in 2008, and Watford supporters will be pleased to see that the club haven't let uncertainty over their managerial situation detract from their transfer business.

Prodl has 49 caps for the Austrian national team, and will coincidentally be joined by compatriot Kevin Wimmer in London, with the Cologne defender moving to Tottenham this summer too.

Below are a selection of Twitter comments from football fans reacting to the deal, with the vast majority impressed with the Londoners' transfer business.
