Experienced Switzerland international Tranquillo Barnetta has told Watson.ch that he would "immediately" sign for Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur if the offer was right.
Speaking in an interview over his future, after his release from Schalke 04 as reported by The Statesman, the 30-year-old indicated that he would be open to a move to the Premier League, citing Tottenham and Liverpool as clubs he would immediately sign for.
‘’The Premier League is, of course, very interesting,’’ said Barnetta. ‘’Liverpool and Tottenham are traditional clubs. If the conditions are right there, it would appeal immediately.
"But Italy had its appeal because of my origins and my relationship. If I had offers from these three clubs (Liverpool, Tottenham and Fiorentina), it would be nice to decide.’’
Would Barnetta be a good signing for either Tottenham or Liverpool?
The Swiss international has been released by Schalke after he was told that they would not renew his contract.
Therefore, it’s hard to envisage that either of the Premier League big boys will be desperate for his signature.
Nevertheless, Barnetta has proven in the past that he is a solid, reliable player and with more than 70 caps for Switzerland, he is not short of experience.
Barnetta is a tenacious winger with a reasonable track record in the Bundesliga which could easily get him a good move to the Premier League - just not to one of the top clubs.
Southampton, Everton or Stoke City would be a much more reasonable destination, as he could become a key player for a mid-table Premier League side.
