Barcelona and Real Madrid dominated the end-of-season supporter honours.
Following Barcelona’s domestic double of La Liga and the Copa del Rey, it came as little surprise to see them dominate the official supporters’ Team of the Season.
Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo got the nod between the sticks, claiming 61.1% of the votes following his wonderful debut campaign at the Nou Camp.
The Chilean international kept a club-record 22 clean sheets, while conceding just 19 over the season is as good as any in recent Spanish history.
Spanish internationals Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique made up a back four alongside Real Madrid’s Marcelo and Atletico Madrid’s only entry, the impressive Uruguayan star Diego Godin.
Another one of Barca’s summer signings Ivan Rakitic was chosen alongside Madrid duo Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez in midfield, a just selection with 32 La Liga appearances to his name.
The front three provided few shocks as top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo (48 goals) was selected with 65.1% of the votes whereas Neymar just edged out Luis Suarez with a majority 50.3% in his favour.
Last but not least, Argentine superstar Lionel Messi earned his place with a whopping 81.8% of the votes. The 27-year-old scored 43 goals and assisted a further 18, a fabulous effort on both accounts.
The Catalans have the chance to make their near-perfect season even better next weekend as they face Juventus in the Champions League final, the winner guaranteed to secure a memorable treble.
Luis Enrique’s men head in to the encounter as favourites, with their dynamic front trio looking to add more to their combined record-breaking 120 goals in all competitions this season.
