Speaking to Sport Wereld, Belgian international goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has admitted that he is aware of the Reds' interest in Benteke, and will speak to the striker about a potential move to Anfield.
Mignolet said: “I have also read it in the newspapers and if I see him here with Red Devils, I'm sure to speak to him about it.”
The duo set to join up on international duty with Belgium in the coming weeks, and they could be playing together next season if Liverpool get their way.
According to a report in the Star, the Merseyside outfit are keen on agreeing a deal with Villa to sign the hotshot striker, with goalscoring their main problem this term.
With Villa failing to qualify for the Europa League, having lost in the FA Cup Final, their chances of keeping hold of Benteke look to have decreased even further. Liverpool may not have the same allure as they used to, but they are still a big club looking to challenge for the title, with Europa League football on top of that.
The 24-year-old netted 16 goals in 35 games this term, including an incredible run of form at the end of the season in which he scored 11 goals in his last 11 Premier League fixtures.
He has proven to be a top level goalscorer, and that is the kind of player that the Reds need if they are to once again challenge for the top four places.
Goals were at a premium for Brendan Rodgers’ side this past campaign, and until they fill the void left by Luis Suarez, they will never recreate the impressive performances they did in the 2013/14 campaign.
Benteke looks to be the player to fix that issue, and Mignolet sounds very keen to see his international teammate at Anfield.
