Report suggests reason Carver hasn't already been handed long term Newcastle job

St James Park

Newcastle United are continuing their search for a manager next season.

The Chronicle has reported an apparent reason Newcastle United haven’t already given John Carver a long term contract to stay in charge of the first team.

Carver guided the club to safety in the Premier League with a win against West Ham on the final day of last season, but the paper states he hasn’t done enough in his role to automatically earn the chance to lead the club next season.

The Magpies are thought to be assessing their options, as they look for a new boss with the paper stating that had the club finished in mid-table, Carver would already be cemented in his role for next season.

It’s important the club try and make a decision in June swiftly because there are a number of knock on effects, which are created when a new manager comes in.

If Carver isn’t going to retain his job, a new boss will need time to judge who is surplus to requirements and which sort of targets to go after by the time the next summer transfer window opens on June 1.
