Liverpool media round-up: Ings talks to take place, Benteke and Milner latest

A selection of the latest stories in the media surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Monday morning.

Liverpool are to open talks with Burnley striker Danny Ings this week with a view to bringing him to Anfield, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have been constantly linked with the striker who scored 11 goals in the Premier League in the season that has just passed, with Ings reported to have rejected a new contract at Turf Moor following the side's relegation to the Championship.

The Echo - like other sources - are reporting he favours a move to Anfield despite interest from Tottenham and the fee is to be set by a tribunal.

One other forward Liverpool have been strongly linked with is Aston Villa's Christian Benteke but the Daily Mirror believes the Belgian could stay at Villa Park after quotes he gave following the side's 4-0 FA Cup final defeat at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Benteke is quoted as saying: “I would like to thank the fans for their support throughout the season because we had some hard times.

“If you want to take something positive, it’s the fact we are safe. Now we can look forward to trying to build something strong.”

The quotes suggest that, for now, Benteke is preparing for next season at Villa Park rather than looking for a move away from the club.

Manchester City midfielder James Milner is another among the targets linked with a move to Anfield, and Sky Sports is reporting he his holding talks with Liverpool, but also Arsenal.

Milner's contract expires this summer, meaning he will be able to move from the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer.
