Marco Silvestri has praised the Leeds United fans and the atmosphere at Elland Road.
Speaking to the official Leeds website, Italian goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has praised the support on show at Elland Road, having enjoyed a strong debut season in English football.
Silvestri said: “Life in Leeds is good. Me and my wife feel at home here. We love the city and the fans. I’m happy about that. The atmosphere at Elland Road is amazing, beautiful.”
These are certainly pleasing comments from Silvestri, but they are not that much of a surprise.
Of all the foreign imports to arrive at the Yorkshire-based club last summer, following Massimo Cellino’s purchase of the club, Silvestri is the one who looks to have adapted best.
The former Cagliari stopper missed just three games of the season, all at the end of the campaign, and he single-handedly kept the Whites in important games.
Some of his displays showed a real talent, and being just 24, he is set to keep developing for the coming years.
Whilst a lot of the foreign players failed to build an attachment with the Leeds fans, Silvestri certainly endeared himself to the club, thanks to both his impressive performances as well as his apparent desire to play for them.
There were few performances when it could be said he was not giving his all, and that is the kind of player who will be a success at Elland Road.
There are still doubts concerning the futures of some of the players brought to the club by Cellino last summer, with many expected to leave after struggling this season. However, Silvestri looks as if he will remain at the club, and there is no denying that he deserves to stay following his impressive campaign between the posts at Elland Road.
