An unlikely move for this young player could be a wonderful piece of business for Celtic.
For a while this season it looked as though Rangers would earn promotion to the Scottish Premiership and prepare for a season challenging Ronny Deila’s Celtic in the top flight. But it was not to be, with Stuart McCall’s side losing 6-1 on aggregate to Motherwell in the recent play-off.
As a result, Haris Vuckic will not be turning out for Rangers against Celtic any time soon, but could the player who was on loan at Ibrox this season make a surprise move to Deila’s side this summer?
At first glance it seems a left-field and potentially crazy suggestion. After all, this is the Vuckic who shortly after arriving at Rangers said his ambition was to score against Celtic in an interview with the Chronicle.
But that was when he had his sights on promotion with Rangers and with that no longer a possibility, could the Newcastle player be tempted by a move to Celtic Park?
After all, the 22-year-old has proved he can score regularly in Scotland, albeit in the Championship; while he is a free agent this summer and a player of undeniable talent.
Celtic need more fire-power with John Guidetti’s loan spell coming to an end and Vuckic fits the model of impressive young players Deila will want to bring to the club.
Perhaps his brief time at Rangers has rendered any future move to Celtic impossible, but if Vuckic wants regular top-flight football and an opportunity to impress in the Champions League, what better place to go at this stage of his career?
He has already admitted his time at Newcastle is over, and there are likely to be plenty of clubs interested in the youngster – so why not Celtic?
