New Derby County manager Paul Clement hasn't held back with his aims for next season.

Derby County’s new manager Paul Clement has explained on the club’s website where he and officials agree about the club.

Steve McClaren’s sacking has created a real opportunity for Clement to come in and make an impression at the Championship side, as they look to seriously challenge for promotion next season.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Derby County as Head Coach and I am looking forward to meeting the players and getting started,” he said.

“Having spoken with Sam Rush and the owners I firmly believe we share the same desires and ambitions and that is to once again make Derby County a Premier League club.”

Clement has spent a lot of time learning about the game and management as an assistant to high profile coach Carlo Ancelotti.

It will be interesting to see how he brings through his coaching experience into his first role as a manager in complete control of the team.

Derby have to back him because the back end of last season showed some holds in the club’s squad.

He’ll already have ideas over the best way to go about improving Derby’s squad and he needs the confidence of the club’s board to go after his first choice targets.

There is also likely to be some movement in terms of players leaving, but the Rams deserve credit for getting this decision made early.

Clement has time to learn about his squad and the time to make changes in preparation for the next transfer window opening on July 1.

Hopefully it will turn out to be the right decision all round.
