Would Yannick Bolasie be the answer to Tottenham's problems on the wing?

A Crystal Palace player has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur but is he worth the alleged outlay?

According to a report from the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie…but would he be a good signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side?

There is no doubt the 26-year-old has impressed for the Eagles this season, his pace and trickery on the left wing a sight to behold; but with Palace allegedly holding out for £20million, Tottenham may be able to do a lot better.

The report suggests that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would attempt to use a current Tottenham player to reduce the cost, but even then Tottenham would be signing a player who is not exactly the famous name their fans will be demanding.

A few months ago Tottenham were linked with Memphis Depay by ESPN prior to his move to Manchester United, while other famous names have also been linked, so it remains to be seen if signing a player who has only ever scored seven senior goals for Palace and averages an assist every 4.6 appearances for the South London club is the way to go.

Yes this season the Palace winger has impressed with 11 assists in 34 league matches but is that a sign he has made the step up or a spike in form that will not be replicated?

For £20million – or the equivalent in players – it is quite a gamble, especially with Tottenham requiring the type of player who can push them back into the top-four and towards some much-needed silverware.

Bolasie is a fine player, there is no doubting that, but the question remains as to whether he is the signing Spurs need to reach the next level; a level they have been away from for too long.
