Southampton fans make their feelings clear about the Europa League on Twitter

The Saints' European place was confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

Compare and contrast the reactions of Southampton supporters and Liverpool supporters to finishing in the Europa League. The same, too, goes for Tottenham fans.

The Spurs and Anfield faithfuls are glum and indifferent - their aim was the Champions League. But, for the Saints, Europa League qualification has brought smiles to many a face.

Indeed, just like the responses of boss Ronald Koeman and goalkeeper Fraser Forster, Southampton supporters appeared delighted on Twitter after their place in Europe was confirmed on Saturday afternoon.

The South Coast side needed Arsenal to beat Aston Villa in the FA Cup final - and that's exactly what they did, with many of the thanks due to former Southampton man Theo Walcott.

Meanwhile, for the Saints to have lost three of their players to Liverpool, as well as their manager to Tottenham, finishing with the same outcome as those two clubs has capped off a fine season for those at St Mary's.

And it's safe to say plenty of Southampton fans were delighted by the achievement. They can now travel across Europe to watch their side (but will no doubt hope it doesn't ruin their Premier League campaign). Here's a selection of the Twitter reaction...
