Report: Impending Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez wants Pepe Reina this summer, not David De Gea

The former Liverpool manager is happy to wait a season before signing the Manchester United keeper.

The future of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea looks set to become one of this summer's biggest transfer sagas.

There is no doubt that Real Madrid are keen on bringing the former Atletico Madrid player back to the Spanish capital in order to replace the ageing Iker Casillas.

Real are also after a new manager after recently sacking Carlo Ancelotti.

The favourite for the role is former Liverpool and Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez, who is leaving Napoli this summer.

The good news for Manchester United is this, reports claim Benitez is not as keen on bringing in De Gea this summer as you might think.

It has been reported by Tutto Mercato Web that Benitez wants to take former Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina to Real this summer.

He has signed the Spaniard at both Liverpool and Napoli but now wants him as Casillas' back-up at Real, a position he currently adopts at Bayern Munich.

In doing so it is believed Benitez would happily go for a season with Casillas and Reina, before Real make a move for De Gea in 2016.

The only problem is Florentino Perez. Real Madrid fans want De Gea and the Real president likes giving his fans what they want. Benitez though could hold the key to De Gea being at Manchester United next season.
