Liverpool reportedly interested in Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall

A report claims Liverpool have identified a Championship stopper to act as competition for their current number one.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in signing Cardiff City goalkeeper David Marshall this summer.

The report claims Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has earmarked the 30-year-old as a player who could challenge current number one Simon Mignolet with Liverpool said to have around £5million in the transfer kitty for a new stopper.

Marshall’s current contract at Cardiff runs until the summer of 2018 so it will take a relatively large fee to tempt the Bluebirds into business, especially when you consider he featured 38 times last season and has made a total of 234 appearances for the Welsh club.

With Brad Jones leaving Anfield this summer, Liverpool do need another experienced ‘keeper to provide competition for Mignolet and Marshall has that in abundance. But would he move to a club where he would not be guaranteed first-team football – at least if the Belgian international continued his fine form of the last few months?

Whatever happens it is sure to be a busy summer for Liverpool and Rodgers as they attempt to sign the players who can get them back into the top four and winning silverware again.
