Sunderland fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to urge the club to give chances to Duncan Watmore in the first team next season.
Watmore has been named as the Barclays Under-21 Premier League Player of the Year for his truly impressive performances in the recently concluded 2014-15 season.
The 21-year-old beat off competition from Chelsea’s Dominic Solanke, Arsenal’s Dan Crowley, Southampton’s Ryan Seager, Liverpool’s Harry Wilson and Fulham’s Ange-Freddy Plumain to win the prestigious individual prize.
What is remarkable about the achievement of the Sunderland attacker is that he missed three months of the season due to a broken leg.
Watmore, who can play as a striker or as a right-sided midfielder, scored 11 goals in 18 Barclays U21 Premier League matches.
Following the excellent news about the youngster on Friday, Sunderland fans took to Twitter to stress that they want to see Watmore in the first team next season.
