Tottenham Hotspur may have finished their Premier League campaign last weekend with victory against Everton, but that was not the end of their season.
Shortly after that clash at Goodison Park, Mauricio Pochettino’s men headed to Malaysia and then on to Australia for a friendly match against Sydney FC.
That game took place this weekend, with striker Harry Kane scoring the only goal to ensure Tottenham ran out 1-0 winners. But it was another Spurs player their fans would have been paying particularly close attention to in the form of DeAndre Yedlin.
The USA international has featured sparingly since arriving from MLS side Seattle Sounders, but he started on Saturday and showed glimpses of what he is capable of.
Yedlin’s pace is not in question and the Tottenham right-back bombed forward more than once against their Australian opponents.
He still has a lot of work to do if he wants to overtake Kyle Walker as Spurs’ first-choice right-back next season, but he is going in the right direction.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Tottenham fans thought of Yedlin’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Watched whole game today. Bentaleb brill but Yedlin gets my Man of Match. Great energy, some hugely important tackles made. Looks good. #COYS— Ben Thornton (@thornton_b) May 30, 2015
yedlin has looked good today. couple mistakes, but also a couple great tackles inside & outside the box. people are still gonna hate. #COYS— patrick (@beardtalk) May 30, 2015
Yedlin is rapid. Somewhat naïve positioning in the first place, but great work to cover so much ground so fast— SHДRKY (@Belgian_Hotspur) May 30, 2015
Yedlin's positioning has been really impressive tonight.— Christian Bertacco (@Tarco_Bell_Ski) May 30, 2015
Yedlin is impressive again today. I've got to be honest I really thought he was a levy marketing signing. Definitely give walker a challenge— Dominic Sibley (@domsib) May 30, 2015
