A player linked with a summer move to Celtic has spoken about the rumours.
A report from SoccerNews earlier this month claimed Celtic had targeted Otigba as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk if the latter moved on this summer, but now the former has had his say.
In comments translated by Inside Futbol, Otigba said, “I need to play more next season. That’s what I should be doing. I want to stay here, that is if I can play a lot.”
The 22-year-old is predominantly a centre-back but he can also operate as a right-back if required, and after being used sparingly in the opening months of the Eredivisie campaign he featured regularly in more recent times, ending the campaign with 24 league appearances.
So if he does not get assurances that he will feature regularly, could Celtic be an option?
“Actually, the interest is not concrete, so I don’t think so,” Otigba said.
With Jason Denayer’s loan move from Manchester City at an end, and doubts remaining over the long-term future of van Dijk, Celtic certainly need to strengthen their defence this summer.
But following Otigba’s latest comments, it seems he is not a player they will be bringing to Scotland any time soon.
