German defender Per Mertesacker made it 3-0 to Arsenal with a header just past the hour mark, and France international striker Olivier Giroud wrapped up the comprehensive win late on.
Owen was impressed with the performance produced by Arsene Wenger’s side and wrote on Sportlobster.com: “Congratulations Arsenal. Great performance from minute one. Outclassed Villa who themselves have plenty to look forward to.”
Over the course of the 90 minutes, Arsenal had 58% of the possession, took 16 shots of which nine were on target and earned eight corners.
In contrast, Tim Sherwood’s Villa had 42% of the possession, took just two shots of which neither was on target and did not earn a single corner.
