Mesut Ozil: I’d welcome Lukas Podolski back at Arsenal

The former Real Madrid man has stated that his compatriot is a popular member of the Gunners’ squad.

Lukas Podolski’s future at Arsenal looks under threat, with the Germany international seemingly surplus to requirements at the North London club.

The former Bayern Munich man fell behind the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck in Arsene Wenger’s preferences in 2014-15, with the experienced and versatile attacker not starting a Premier League game.

As such, Podolski was farmed out to Inter on loan but again struggled to capture his best form due to lacking match fitness and taking time to adjust to Italian football.

The World Cup winning forward is set to return to Arsenal this summer following the expiration of his time at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, but looks increasingly likely to be sold.

Despite this, team-mate and compatriot Mesut Ozil has welcomed Podolski back with open arms.

The former Real Madrid man has stated that his countryman is a popular member of the squad that would be a good addition to Wenger’s contingent.

“The whole team and myself would be happy,” Ozil is quoted as saying by Goal.

“He has many friends in the team. He's a real joker.“

Podolski will surely need to move clubs if he is to guarantee regular first-team action, with Arsenal’s attacking options leaving him as a fringe player.
